Discovering new characters begins with many different sources.
On a recent trip to Finland to visit a friend, we had occassion to eat at a high end restaurant. Okay, so we MADE lots of occasions to do that.
Anyway, our sommelier was charming, obviously smart, and a bit shy. He also was very well educated. He spoke with his hands and rounded his words.
My friend and I were rapt watching him recite the ingredients for the food and what was in the wine and how they were a perfect pairing.
Long after we left the restaurant, we were still talking about him.
Hence, Jörge (not his real name) was born. He will be a character in this third Sly book. A foreign exchange student that has dreams of becoming a world renown sommelier.
Settings are often characters as well. Sylvia will be rebuilding Smugglers’. While on my trip, I visited was forced into several bars and was able to make some definite decisions about layout and ambiance.
I ran into lots of other fodder as well.
This should be an interesting next few books.
